The 2024 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) 2024 season. The 120th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the American League (AL) champion New York Yankees. It was the Dodgers’ first World Series appearance and win since 2020, and the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 2009. The series began on October 25 and ended on October 30 with the Dodgers winning in five games. Freddie Freeman was named the MVP of the series, tying a World Series record with 12 runs batted in (RBIs) while hitting home runs in the first four games of the series, including the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history in Game 1.

Because of the renewal of the rivalry between the two storied franchises, and the World Series debuts of both Ohtani and Judge, many regarded the matchup as a «dream» World Series in the lead-up to the event.
This was the first World Series played outside the state of Texas since 2018 and the first to not feature a team from Texas since 2020. Additionally, this was the eighth straight World Series to feature a team from Texas or California. The Houston Astros won AL pennants in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022; the Los Angeles Dodgers won NL pennants in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2024; and the Texas Rangers won the AL pennant in 2023.
For the Dodgers, 2024 marked the World Series debuts of Ohtani, Yamamoto, T. Hernández, and Edman. Freddie Freeman and Will Smith made their second World Series appearances. Max Muncy, Mookie Betts, and Walker Buehler made their third World Series appearances. Who knows? Buehler needed no leash in Game 3. Like Schmidt, he walked the first batter he faced. Unlike Schmidt, he was in command from that point forward. Buehler was in prime postseason form, carving up Yankees hitters as he went five shutout innings on two hits and two walks while striking out five. He gave the Dodgers everything they could have asked for. The bullpen didn’t even get warm until manager Dave Roberts was preparing to call upon Brusdar Graterol for the sixth inning.
