Portal 2 makes this list for a number of reasons. First, it’s one of the best games ever made. Second, it has a largely underrated co-op mode. Third, it’s a mind-bending puzzle game that forces children to test the limits of their spatial reasoning.
Half-Life 2 forever changed our expectations for what a first-person shooter could be. Its richly imagined world and wonderfully paced gameplay is a delight, never letting up and brimming with invention. The Gravity Gun is obviously the poster child of Half-Life 2, turning each environment into a tactile playground in which you can create improvised weapons and solve basic but clever physics puzzles – and its importance can’t be overstated – but there’s an awful lot more here. We’re introduced to Alyx Vance, a supporting character with a rare warmth and intelligence. We’re transported to an iconic city, where Combine barricades loom with grim authority, and Striders stalk the streets with an otherworldly menace. We sat down with Scot, Dave V, Katy, Dan, and some other faces from the team to dive deep into Season 7. Introducing Seasonal Worlds, a dynamic new way to experience the game. The first Seasonal World will focus on PvP. There will also be a new Outpost Rush map preview, daily solo trials, and the comeback of popular seasonal events, and also talk more about what is shown in the new roadmap. The gameplay involves no auto-locked targeting attacks and, therefore, a steady hand at aiming is required. With each level, the hostile mobs are programmed with increasingly complex and strong sequences of attacking behavior skill sets that will require the player to counter using their mana, stamina, and health with timed attacks, dodges, weapon blocks, retreats, or crawling stealth. The weapon skill tree choices are currently for bow, hammer, hatchet, great axe, fire staff, life staff, musket, blunderbuss, spear, sword/shield, ice gauntlet, void gauntlet, flail, and great sword.
