The socioeconomic and political consequences of connectivity are becoming very apparent. Interdependence, the control of electricity flows and interconnections are increasingly understood as political currency. Electricity grids are the “script” of modern economies.
In 2001, a for-profit educational company named o.s. Earth Inc. purchased the principal assets of the World Game Institute and offered a Global Simulation Workshop that is a ‘direct descendant of Buckminster Fuller’s famous World Game.’ In 2019, the company transferred its assets to the Schumacher Center for New Economics.
In 1980, the World Game Institute and the World Resources Inventory published the World Energy Data Sheet. The World Energy Data Sheet compiled a nation by nation summary of energy production, resources, and consumption. The information was compiled in tables and map formats. The project was researched by Seth Snyder and overseen by Medard Gabel. The work was used during a World Game in Philadelphia, in the summer of 1980.
Game 3 world series 2024
With his Yankees down three runs in the fourth inning of Game 3 of the World Series, Stanton had, moments before this sad dash, ripped a double to left for the first Yankees hit of the game. Two batters later, with two outs on the board, shortstop Anthony Volpe lofted a hit of his own, a soft line drive over the shortstop’s head. Ball touching turf presented the desperate home crowd with a glimmer of hope, a reason to cheer, a morsel of optimism.
From that moment on, the Yankees did not threaten again in their 4-2 loss. They somehow put multiple runners on in the sixth and seventh, yet a breakthrough felt extraordinarily unlikely the entire time. Walker Buehler dog-walked their lineup, punching out five in five scoreless frames. The Dodgers’ bullpen followed by allowing just two hits. Los Angeles’ 4-0 lead felt insurmountable all night, a hill disguised as Everest that the Yankees were trying to climb with a backpack of rocks. A two-run homer from Alex Verdugo with two strikes and two outs in the ninth ruined the shutout but was no more than a footnote.
In the top of the first inning, after Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff walk, Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run, tying a record by homering in his fifth straight World Series game going back to the 2021 World Series, where he appeared as a member of the Atlanta Braves. In the top of the third inning, Tommy Edman led off with a walk, advanced on a groundout and then scored on a single by Mookie Betts. The Dodgers threatened again in the fourth with runners at first and third and no outs, but the rally was thwarted when Gavin Lux was tagged out on a close play at home on an attempted squeeze bunt by Edman. In the bottom half of the inning, Giancarlo Stanton doubled and tried to score on Anthony Volpe’s single, but he was also cut down at the plate via an accurate throw by left fielder Teoscar Hernandez to keep the Yankees off the board.

World series 2024 game 5
Shohei Ohtani (Japanese: 大谷 翔平, Hepburn: Ōtani Shōhei, .mw-parser-output .IPA-label-small .mw-parser-output .references .IPA-label-small,.mw-parser-output .infobox .IPA-label-small,.mw-parser-output .navbox .IPA-label-small pronounced ; born July 5, 1994) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher and designated hitter (DH) for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Nicknamed «Shotime», he has previously played in MLB for the Los Angeles Angels and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. Because of his elite contributions as a hitter and as a pitcher, a rarity as a two-way player, Ohtani’s prime seasons have been considered among the greatest in baseball history, with some comparing them favorably to the early career of Babe Ruth.
The major league record for errors by a pitcher in a career is held by Hippo Vaughn, with 64 errors. That also is the National League record. The American League career record is held by Ed Walsh. The most errors committed by a pitcher in a season is 28 by Jim Whitney, which also is the National League record. The American League record of 15 is held by three pitchers, Jack Chesbro, Rube Waddell, and Ed Walsh. The record for most errors committed by a pitcher in one inning is three, first set by Cy Seymour in 1898. That feat was matched by Tommy John in 1988, Jaime Navarro in 1996, and Mike Sirotka in 1999.
Ohtani’s debut MLB spring training in 2018 was disastrous and the majority of American news sources were extremely disappointed, concluding that he could not accomplish even one of his two-way abilities. Over two spring games against major leaguer batters, in just 2.2 innings pitching he gave up three home runs and had a 27.0 earned run average (average ERA for MLB pitchers was 4.14 that year). He completed his five game spring training, three of which against minor leaguers, with an 11.7 ERA in pitching, and 4 hits for 32 at bats, .125/.222/.125 in batting (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage, averaged .248/.318/.409 for MLB batters that year). Several major newspapers suggested he needed plenty of Triple-A minor league appearances before starting for Angels. By the end of Ohtani’s impressive 2018 MLB regular season, the American media admitted they wrote off Ohtani far too early.
