Freddie Freeman hit a two-run single to tie the Series record of 12 RBIs, set by Bobby Richardson over seven games in 1960, and was voted Series Most Valuable Player. With the Dodgers one out from losing Friday’s opener, Freeman hit a game-ending grand slam reminiscent of Kirk Gibson’s homer off Oakland’s Dennis Eckersley in 1988’s Game 1 that sparked Los Angeles to the title.

It’s been more than a decade since any team swept a World Series. And thanks to the Yankees’ 11-4 win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the 2024 Fall Classic, that streak will extend at least another year.
As for this year’s LCS competitors, the Rangers grabbed their first victory in two tries in a Game 7, dropping the Astros to 2-4. The D-backs won their only previous chance — beating the Yankees in a memorable Game 7 of the 2001 World Series — prior to winning Game 7 of the ’23 NLCS vs. the Phillies.
